Early Life and Education

Karin Hildur Kajsa Ollongren was born in Leiden, Netherlands, on May 28, 1967. She is the daughter of Åke Ollongren, a Swedish diplomat, and Karin Staal, a Dutch psychologist. Ollongren studied law at the University of Leiden and holds a Master of Laws degree with a specialization in European and International Law.

Political Career

Ollongren began her political career in 2003 when she joined the Democratic Party 66 (D66). She served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2006 to 2017. During her time in parliament, Ollongren held several positions, including spokesperson for Defense and Foreign Affairs and parliamentary leader of D66. In 2017, Ollongren was appointed Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in the third Rutte government. She held this position until 2020, when she was appointed Minister of Defense.
